Natural and eco friendly

At NATURALIST, we believe that better sleep starts with better choices — for your body, your home, and the planet.

Our mattresses are built from real, traceable materials like organic latex, coconut fibre, wool, and cotton — with no glues, no polyurethane foams, and no toxic flame retardants. Every component is carefully selected from certified suppliers, ensuring not only comfort, but also long-term safety and sustainability.

We don’t believe in shortcuts. From material sourcing to packaging and shipping, we make every effort to reduce environmental impact. We choose modular construction over disposable designs. We prioritise durability over trends. And we’re proud to offer a mattress that aligns with modern values — natural, adaptable, and made with purpose.

Social responsibility

Being natural means being responsible — to people and the planet.

NATURALIST mattresses are handcrafted in an eco-friendly, solar-powered factory located deep in the forest, beside a calm lake we care for and actively preserve — including reintroducing native fish species to restore the ecosystem.

We proudly employ people with disabilities, ensuring inclusive opportunities across all levels of production. Beyond the product itself, we support our local community and promote fair, respectful working conditions.

In our operations, we act consciously:
– We generate our electricity from solar panels.
– We choose suppliers who share our environmental and ethical values.
– We minimise production waste and reuse materials wherever possible.
– We treat water and raw materials with care and zero harmful runoff.

Every mattress we make reflects these values — responsibly crafted, transparently sourced, and made to support not just your sleep, but the world around you.

We only use materials certified for what matters most

We don’t just talk about natural – we source it with care. Every component inside the Naturalist mattress comes from suppliers who hold respected international certifications for organic and non-toxic production, such as GOTS, GOLS, or OEKO-TEX. From organic cotton to natural latex and wool, we choose partners who meet the highest material standards — and we ask for proof. While the final mattress itself does not carry these certifications as a whole product, we ensure that every ingredient inside it does. Because when it comes to your health and the planet, trust should be more than just a label.

Certified materials. Carefully chosen.

We build the Naturalist mattress using only certified organic components — like GOLS-certified latex from trusted farms in India and Guatemala, and GOTS-certified cotton and wool from verified European suppliers. No fiberglass. No polyurethane foams. No flame retardants or harmful chemicals. While the finished mattress itself is not certified as a product, every ingredient inside it comes from suppliers who meet the highest international standards. That’s how we make sure your sleep stays natural — inside and out.

What does “non-toxic mattress” really mean?

To us, a non-toxic mattress means one that’s made without harmful chemicals — better for the environment, the people who make it, and the people who sleep on it. Many conventional mattresses today still rely on petrochemical-based foams, synthetic adhesives, chemical dyes, and flame retardants. That’s why it’s important to look for natural materials and third-party certifications that check for known toxic substances and chemical emissions. A truly safer mattress will use certified components like natural latex, cotton, and wool — with no fiberglass, polyurethane foams, chemical flame retardants, or synthetic glues. Instead of being glued together, its layers are joined with more natural methods like needle-tufting or cotton wrapping. Choosing a non-toxic mattress isn’t always simple — but understanding what’s inside is a great place to start.

How polyurethane foam may affect indoor air quality

Most conventional mattresses today are made using petroleum-based polyurethane or memory foams. These foams are often combined with chemical adhesives and flame retardants — materials that may release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) through a process known as off-gassing. VOCs can contribute to poor indoor air quality and may be linked to headaches, respiratory irritation, or other sensitivities in some people — especially in poorly ventilated spaces. That’s why many customers now choose mattresses made from certified natural materials, which are free from polyurethane foam, fiberglass, and chemical flame retardants — to support a cleaner home environment and more restful sleep.

Why certifications matter when choosing cotton, wool or latex

Many mattress materials labeled as “natural” — like cotton, wool, or latex — can vary greatly in how they’re grown, treated, and processed. For example, conventional cotton is often farmed using synthetic pesticides and herbicides. Similarly, wool can be cleaned and finished using strong chemical agents, and latex may come from plantations that rely on chemical fertilizers or processing agents. That’s why third-party certifications like GOTS and GOLS are important — they help ensure that materials are grown and processed according to strict environmental and health standards, and verified by independent bodies. At Naturalist, we source only certified cotton, wool, and latex from partners who meet these standards, so you can sleep with confidence in the materials inside your mattress.

Transparency over greenwashing

Environmental claims in marketing should be clear, honest, and backed by reliable facts. It’s easy to be misled by broad labels like “eco-friendly,” “non-toxic,” or “green” — especially when they’re used without context. Some brands promote natural-sounding materials or display certification logos, even when only one ingredient is certified, or when the final product as a whole hasn’t been independently verified. At Naturalist, we don’t claim full product certification — instead, we take responsibility by carefully sourcing certified materials from trusted partners and clearly stating what each component is made from. Our approach is simple: real materials, traceable origins, no shortcuts.

Understanding GOTS and GOLS Standards

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) are two of the world’s most recognized certifications for organic materials used in mattresses. GOTS ensures that textiles like wool and cotton are grown and processed according to strict environmental and social criteria. GOLS applies specifically to natural latex and guarantees that the latex comes from organically managed rubber plantations and is processed without harmful chemicals. At Naturalist, we do not claim that our final mattress product is certified under these standards. Instead, we source key components — such as GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, GOTS-certified organic cotton, and certified wool — from suppliers who meet these high standards. We take transparency seriously. Our suppliers’ certifications can be verified in official public databases, and we’re happy to assist customers who wish to check this information. If needed, we provide direct documentation or guidance to verify each certified material we use.
